The BC Interior Biodiversity Conservation Atlas is a collection of data layers used in and results from the Ecoregional assessment for the BC Interior (Sub-Boreal Interior and Central Interior Ecoprovinces).

Inputs used in the assessment include terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems and species distribution.  Terrestrial data is, for the most part, attributed to 500 hectare hexagons while freshwater content is attributed to BC 3rd order watersheds.

Results of the conservation assessment, spatial optimization analyses conducted through the use of Marxan are also portrayed in hexagons and watersheds.  These results show the priority conservation sites for the suite of conservation targets and goals identified by a team of regional and subject matter experts. These target lists, as well as shape files of much of the atlas content, can be found here.

The data layers are also available as a web map service via this link: http://atlas.natureconservancy.ca/ArcGIS/services/ NCC_WMS_v1/MapServer/WMSServer?

Please be aware of the limitations of the data. These data are meant to be used at a scale of 1:50,000 or smaller (such as 1:250,000) for the purpose of assessing the conservation status over large geographic regions. Data evaluation and improvement are ongoing.
